Seeking flexibility and philanthropy opportunities while at work, hundreds of CHRISTUS Health Associates in Irving took part in a special philanthropic activity. They gathered in the large first floor Mother Frances Hall at the CHRISTUS system office in Irving and packed food for Rise Against Hunger. The annual event is a popular one and a day of service in which Associates choose shifts and pack meals that go to malnourished individuals around the world. The packing and organizing is vital work for Rise Against Hunger.
Beginning its meal packaging program in 2005, Rise Against Hunger depends on volunteers like CHRISTUS to help make their vision of a world without hunger a reality.
Addressing fundamental health-related needs of under-served individuals is consistent with the CHRISTUS Health mission.
Those who volunteered with the international hunger relief organization packed ingredients that were high in protein, dehydrated, and of high nutritional content. By creating an assembly-line packaging system, Associates created nourishing meals of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.
The opportunity to participate in the hands-on hunger relief efforts was embraced by Associates. Living the mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, CHRISTUS Associates were eager to contribute to aiding the malnourished around the world.
